Rail freight transport services still operating

ÖBB's rail freight services are still in operation despite the restrictions in passenger transport.

The Rail Cargo Group is maintaining the flow of goods on the rails and can increase capacities.

Coronavirus is making its presence felt throughout the European economy. We, the Rail Cargo Group, are fully committed to protecting the health of our employees and everyone involved in our activities. At the same time, it is our goal to ensure that our services continue to operate. Freight transport in particular must be maintained in order to safeguard the provision of supplies.

According to the current state of affairs, all freight trains are running on schedule without any restrictions. Depending on customer requirements, the capacity for intermodal and conventional rail freight transport can be increased at any time.

With our end-to-end logistics solutions, we regularly transport large quantities for wagon groups or block trains from A to B on fixed days and at fixed times, as well as flexibly and at short notice.

What can we guarantee

Hungary

In combination with our logistics centres in Hungary, we offer integrated, tailor-made transport and warehouse logistics from a single source. The services of Rail Cargo Logistics - Hungaria maintain the continuity of the supply chain by pre-carriage and onward carriage by road, or with the help of our high-performance cargo handling.

Rail Cargo Logistics - Hungaria offers a reliable solution for the current situation, as freight trains run regularly between the Rail Cargo Group's own warehouse locations. With transhipment to rail, the uncertainties in road freight transport, for example in the connection between Hungary and Italy, can be bypassed, traffic jams can be avoided and the punctual transport of goods can be guaranteed.

We operate regular train services between Hungary and the southern ports of Koper and Rijeka as well as regular services to Ploiești in Romania thanks to own container terminal BILK in Budapest.

What is more, our own dispatch centre in Ferencváros Budapest offers professional support for wagon management and add-on services, thus facilitating the smooth handling of transport to the Balkans.

Whether for block train, single wagonload or intermodal transport – thanks to our position in the Hungarian market and our own production network, we are the ones making rail logistics possible in Austria, Hungary and in countries throughout Central and South-Eastern Europe. In addition, our state-of-the-art logistics centre at Győrszemere is the hub of sustainable freight transport.

Currently the following TransFER connections to and from Hungary are still in operation: Sopron-Budapest-Istanbul, Budapest-Koper, Budapest-Neuss, Budapest-Ploiesti, Wels-Vienna-Budapest, Budapest-Balkans, Sopron-Bucharest.

Italy

We are providing transloading services between rail and road by means of our warehouses in Italy in Desio and San Stino di Livenza. In conjunction with our local logistics centres, we thus offer integrated transport and warehouse logistics including final distribution throughout Italy from a single source.

We can currently assure you that the following intermodal TransFER connections to and from Italy are still in service: Munich-Trieste; Salzburg-Trieste; Villach-Trieste; Wels-Trieste; Trieste-Vienna-Linz-Trieste; Salzburg-Trieste-Graz-Salzburg; Verona-Lübeck and Vienna-Melzo.

With our conventional freight transport services, including the transport of dangerous goods, we are operating services from Villach to/from S. Stino, Desio, S.Giorgio Di Nogaro, Lugo, Pescara, Maddaloni and Bicocca, thus offering the full range of safe, secure rail transport services to and from Italy.

The Rolling Road (ROLA) on the Wörgl-Brenner route is operating; the frequency of its services are being determined based on capacity utilization on the part of forwarding agencies and truck drivers. The Trento-Wörgl ROLA route was temporarily suspended on 11th March. We are working on the possibilities of resuming services in consultation with our customers.

Czech Republic

Transport services to and from the German ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg to Melnik, as well as to and from the Slovenian port of Koper to Bratislava, Žilina, Vratimov, Paskov and Kaliningrad are still running.

The TransFER connections Melnik-Hamburg/Bremerhaven, Paskov-Gdansk and Hohenau-Bohumin/Petrovice will be operating as scheduled. The locomotives are being changed and disinfected on journeys to and from the Czech Republic.

Slovakia

We provide intermodal logistics solutions to Central, Southern and Eastern Europe through our direct connection to the Bratislava Terminal.

The TransFER connection Bratislava/Zilina-Koper is still operating according to schedule. Here too, locomotives are being changed on all trains travelling to and from Slovakia.

The port of Koper is considered an important transport hub for Central and Eastern Europe. The high-frequency connection between Koper and Bratislava and Žilina creates a direct link between Central and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean and also to the Far East.

Poland

In conjunction with our own branches in Poland, we offer integrated transport and logistics solutions that include additional services such as customs clearance, reloading and temporary storage from a single source. Direct access to the international standard and broad-gauge railway network means we can provide the CIS countries with customisable, end-to-end solutions.

The non-stop TransFER connection Paskov-Gdansk to and from Poland is still running as scheduled.

Slovenia

The Rail Cargo Group in Slovenia specialises in the handling of intermodal transport via the Adriatic Sea ports as well as truck deliveries and warehouse logistics. In Slovenia, we connect Central and Eastern Europe with the Mediterranean Sea. The Port of Koper – as the northernmost port on the Adriatic – acts as the most important overseas gateway to the Far East.

The operation of the following scheduled TransFER connections from and to Slovenia has been assured: Villach-Koper, Duisburg-Ljubljana and the ROLA route Wels-Maribor.

Germany

The operational handling of port transport for the Ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg is our focus in Germany. The Rail Cargo Group in Germany implements future-oriented and accurate logistics solutions: for block train, single wagon transport, wagon groups and intermodal transport.
