Turkey: Multimodal logistics between Europe and Asia

With direct connections and numerous TransFER combinations, RCG reaches the major international freight terminals in Turkey from various European destinations, including Istanbul (Halkali), Tekirdağ and Cerkezköy. In addition to regular TransFER connections for freight forwarding customers, RCG also offers multimodal logistics solutions for industrial customers to transport goods overland to Turkey and onwards to the CIS states – regardless of whether the customer's location has its own siding. Regular departures, attractive transit times and optional transhipment options ensure predictability and reliable transport handling. RCG handles the entire logistics chain, from the provision of empty containers to collection and delivery by truck.

Consumer goods, steel and building materials industry as growth markets

The consumer goods sector is an important growth area for the Turkish economy. The RCG offers multimodal door-to-door services here. An international transport solution between Hungary and Turkey was developed for a customer in the food industry: The transport begins in Hungary, from where the first mile transport of the goods is implemented by truck to Bratislava. From there, the main leg of the journey heads to Istanbul on the sustainable railway. In Istanbul, the truck takes over again for the last mile to bring the goods to their destination. The entire transport, including first mile and last mile, takes less than a week and involves one round trip per week.
In addition, the steel and building materials industry in Turkey has seen a significant increase in production volumes over the past few years. Thanks to this development, RCG was able to increase transport volumes for steel and building materials in containers, block trains and single wagon transport by around 60 percent compared to the previous year.

Versatile equipment for flexible transport

RCG provides a wide range of equipment for multimodal transport solutions to and from Turkey, including swap bodies (WAB), 45-foot HC containers, bulk and trailers. The flexibility of the swap bodies, which can be loaded from above and from all sides, ensures maximum utilisation of the cargo space. Goods that would otherwise be transported by road can thus be efficiently shifted to rail. 45-foot HC containers, on the other hand, offer around ten percent more space than the standard 40-foot containers, meaning that more goods can be transported per container. This is particularly advantageous for bulk and voluminous goods such as consumer goods and building materials. Like the swap bodies, they can be used in both rail and truck transport and are therefore particularly flexible in first mile and last mile carriage, which enables seamless integration into multimodal transport chains.
