SARI

SARI is ushering in a new era for rail freight transport. This Rail Cargo Group innovation project uses state-of-the-art technologies to enable freight wagons to operate in a highly automated way without a locomotive in the future.

With SARI, existing freight wagons are transformed into intelligent, high-tech carriers — ready for short-haul journeys and offering a genuine alternative to lorries. This technological leap is made possible by retrofitting the wagons with modern camera, LiDAR and radar systems, as well as powerful battery-powered electric motors.

For a strong single-wagon transport sector

SARI represents a paradigm shift in rail freight transport. The innovation project aims to make today’s cost- and labour-intensive shunting operations, short-haul transport, and first and last mile services more economically sustainable – with a particular focus on making single-wagon transport competitive again.
