Port of Trieste: Gateway for intermodal transport to Central Europe

Following the reopening of the Tauern route, the port's connection for freight transport to Austria, Southern Germany and Hungary is once again significantly more stable. ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) offers several direct TransFER connections to the port.

The Port of Trieste is a central hub for maritime flows of goods in Central Europe. In TransNET – RCG's international network – it is directly li to Villach, Salzburg, Linz, Vienna, Munich, Burghausen and Wolfurt via non-stop connections – with several weekly round trips. RCG thus offers seamless connections to key economic regions and smooth transport between the Adriatic Sea and the hinterland. The combination of TransFER Vienna–Trieste and TransFER Wels–Vienna–Budapest also provides a connection to the BILK terminal. In addition, a dedicated company train operates directly between Budapest and Trieste.

High reliability thanks to the reopened Tauern route

Since the reopening of the Tauern route in the summer, diversionary traffic is no longer necessary, making transport to Trieste noticeably more stable and predictable. This means that the Port of Trieste is once again reliably connected to Southern Germany, Austria and Hungary – with attractive transit times and secured capacities for containers and swap bodies.
