New route via Koper to Ostrava

80,000 tonnes of coking coal from Australia have reached the port of Koper by sea. From there it went on with ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) to the steelworks in Ostrava – a new route with future potential.

After one month and four days and with over 80,000 tonnes of coking coal on board, the ship MV Iconic Pride docked in the port of Koper last week. From there, the goods were transferred to several RCG trains and transported to the Czech city of Ostrava to a steelworks with own traction starting from Austria. This innovative customer solution was implemented within only 48 hours on sustainable rail. This new route is an alternative and a relief for the overcrowded Baltic ports and holds great potential for the future, especially for imports of raw materials.
