Restrictions after train accident in Carinthia

At 4:23 am on 20 January 2023, an accident involving two freight trains occurred in the station area of Fürnitz in Carinthia in Austria. A side-on collision triggered a derailment. As a result, several wagons were on fire. The fire could be extinguished in the meantime. Both drivers were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear.  

Train traffic to and from Italy is currently only possible to a limited extent. The operation of Villach Süd is expected to be restricted until 25 January 2023, 00:00 hrs. Train traffic to and from Slovenia is currently not affected.
