GLEC Standard: Climate Data That Matters

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) now complies with a new international industry standard for emissions data: Calculations of CO₂ emissions for freight transport with RCG are now accredited according to the GLEC Framework.

What is the GLEC Framework?

The GLEC Framework was developed by the Global Logistics Emissions Council and is supported by the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) – an international non-profit organisation working to establish global standards for the calculation and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions in logistics. It covers emissions across all transport modes (road, rail, air, sea) and supports the implementation of ISO 14083. This enables companies to transparently present their carbon footprint across the entire supply chain – and make climate-relevant decisions based on reliable facts.

Direct Benefits for RCG Customers

Since 2023, RCG has been issuing TÜV-approved emissions statements for completed transports upon request. With GLEC accreditation, this service is now even more precise: Upon request, the emissions statements can be supplemented with an annex that provides detailed information on the calculation based on the GLEC Framework. This gives RCG customers valid, state-of-the-art emissions data that is comparable across the industry.

About Smart Freight Centre

The Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is an international non-profit organisation focused on reducing emissions from global freight transport. Its goal: a net-zero logistics sector by 2050 at the latest – in line with the 1.5°C climate targets. SFC accelerates this transition by working closely with companies across the supply chain to systematically measure, compare, and reduce emissions.
