New wagons for automotive transport

More capacity on rail: RCG is adding 70 new car transport wagons to its fleet. The new-generation, double-deck wagons, with a loading length of 30.07 metres, are specifically designed for electric vehicles and increase available capacity – particularly during production peaks, seasonal fluctuations or short-term demand. The procurement of a further 130 car transport wagons is planned for 2027. 

Precision logistics for the automotive industry 

Reliable and precisely timed supply chains are crucial in the automotive sector. “Just in Time” and “Just in Sequence” require components to arrive exactly where they are needed, while finished vehicles must reach customers and export ports on schedule. RCG has many years of experience in this field, transporting around one million finished vehicles each year as well as approximately 600,000 tonnes of components such as engines, wheels, doors, body shells and batteries for more than twenty international locations. By expanding its fleet, RCG is systematically strengthening its end-to-end offering for the automotive industry and is one of only two rail logistics providers on the European market to operate its own car transport wagons with its own locomotives. 

The climate benefits of rail 

Today, around 60% of all new vehicles in Europe are already transported by rail. A single car train can carry up to 256 vehicles, replacing up to 37 truck journeys on the road. In addition, rail transport generates more than 20 times less CO2 emissions than road transport * – a key component of climate-friendly supply chains for companies with ambitious sustainability targets.

Strong connections for the mobility of the future 

As the share of electric vehicles grows, so too do the requirements for automotive logistics and safety. RCG offers multimodal door-to-door solutions for electric vehicles as well as batteries and components, connecting production sites, suppliers, OEMs and logistics providers. This creates stable and sustainable logistics solutions for the mobility of the future.
