Why is RCG involved in the development of wagons?
- RCG's high quality, long-standing expertise and strong international network in the rail logistics sector are impressive
- With a well-founded understanding of the needs in the most diverse industries (e.g. automotive, wood, steel, intermodal) and customer segments (shippers, logisticians, energy supply companies, lessors) paired with our in-house experience and voestalpine's material know-how, we have jointly developed TransANT.
-
Why is this innovation needed?
- The design of freight wagons has shown little innovation in recent decades. In addition, the needs of our customers have changed considerably.
- A modular design that can be used universally for different types of goods is desired.
- The advantages: greater flexibility, consideration of different maintenance frequencies and adaptation to the customer's logistics requirements.
-
What exactly is TransANT?
- TransANT consists of two components:
- 1. Standardized platform (available in different lengths)
- 2. Modular design (easily exchangeable and available in various industry-specific versions)
- The most important design principles were: Weight optimization, standardization and modularization in manufacturing and maintenance as well as the use of high-strength structural steels.
- In addition, TransANT has roll-of lift capacity and is suitable for an automatic central buffer coupling (excl. 33ft).
- TransANT consists of two components:
-
Why TransANT? What does the name mean?
- With TransANT we have oriented ourselves towards nature - the power animal ant.
- TransANT lifts a multiple of your own body weight.
- The ant's body structure is comparable to the skeletal design of the platform wagon.
- The prefix "Trans" indicates that it is a logistics product.
-
Is it possible to develop new superstructures/wagons?
- Yes, the development of new industry-specific superstructures is part of the further development of TransANT.
- Technical adaptations are possible at any time and are adapted to customer needs or demand.
-
Can TransANT also be used as a container wagon?
- Yes, in this case TransANT is balasted to the minimum weight. Due to the modularization and component standardization, TransANT is a real alternative to a standard container wagon.
- The wagon can also be changed to one type (60ft container wagon becomes a 60ft Ea wagon).
-
How long is the lifetime of the superstructure?
- The advantage of TransANT is that the bodies can be exchanged more flexibly than with conventional freight wagons.
- In this way, changed logistics or demand situations can also be taken into account.
- After the platform is intended for a usage period (up to / over 30 years), the superstructures can be exchanged in a shorter usage horizon.
